October 19, 2009 ONWARD... THANK YOU! Wow! What can we say other than thank you for all your welcoming comments and greetings. Believe me, they were overwhelming and truly appreciated. My favorite comment was from someone who wrote, Roanoke finally has a radio station for people who don't stay stay home to watch "Dancing With The Stars". To each his own... Now, let me apologize for a couple of gaffes on our part. We've been working really hard to get 101.5 The Music Place on the air and haven't had much time to sleep. Under those conditions we missed a couple of things that we're in the process of correcting right now. The web site is at this time a skeleton of what it will become. We got our first test stream going about 12 hours after the first song and then got it linked up as fast as we could. We didn't like the equipment and software that provides artist and title information and how it was working (not working), so we scrapped it and ordered all new stuff. As soon as it gets here we'll have that information available in the player window. Please be patient. If you want that information just note the time and day the tune aired and call 540 344 2800, or send a comment and we'll get back to you with the answer as quickly as we can. Regarding music, we are only playing a portion of our library. We are adding music hourly. If you haven't heard your favorites yet, stick around. You will hear them.
The stream is disabled during all UVA sports broadcasts. Regarding UVA sports broadcasts, we will continue to broadcast football and basketball games plus the call in shows. The folks at UVA are good people and we have a fine relationship with them. Our previous contract to be the Roanoke outlet for their broadcasts will be honored and we do it with pride. At the time we made the decision to create 101.5 The Music Place we spoke with them about potential conflicts and they were extremely gracious and understanding. Whether we continue the relationship with UVA in future years is yet to be decided. We both recognize the importance of satisfying the best interests of our various constituencies and have already begun exploring options to do so. Regardless of the ultimate outcome of those considerations, we wish to express our thanks to UVA for their understanding and professionalism. And, we thank you for allowing us to interrupt your music without your ire. It will always be right back as soon as the sports broadcasts have concluded. Very shortly we will have a program listing of all the exciting features that are now being secured to make your experience with 101.5 more pleasurable (Yes, we will carry The Grateful Dead Hour). If you have any specific ideas for program content let us hear about them. Along that line, you'll soon be able to access a comprehensive listing and schedules of things to do in Roanoke and within the commutable area. We wish to encourage all cultural venues to send us their PSA's and press releases. We'll be able to broadcast (thats what we do) this information as well as include it on the website. Stay tuned for Facebook, Twitter and Youtube opportunities. We know many of you are lighting up the cyber social networks with your enthusiasm about us already. Thank you. We already have commitments from several artists to join us in our new studios for live performances. We are developing a plan to allow a few you at a time access to those engagements on a limited basis (our joint is tiny). We'll announce the details as soon as they are in place. It is important that we all continue to support the arts and the venues that are dedicated to enriching our lives. That includes those who advertise on 101.5 The Music Place. In order to provide as much music as possible we are limiting the number of commercials we broadcast to no more than four an hour. We think that better serves you, and better serves our advertisers. No more will you have to wade through minutes of commercials to hear about something of worth, nor will you have to wade through minutes of commercials waiting for the music to return. Our advertisers are as passionate about the music we broadcast as you are. They deserve to be recognized for their contributions. Patronize them when you can. They are our partners. It's been a wild and gratifying week. We're only going to get better. Thanks! Oh yeah, one more thing - The Kirk Avenue Music Hall invited us over to their place for a welcoming party this Friday October 23rd at about 6:30. They are inviting you too, but we are asking you to please bring a non-perishable food item to gain admittance. Those, of course, will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank. So drop by, make a donation, say hello and enjoy a free night of live music by Wink Keziah and Delux Motel. As it has been said, "let the wild rumpus start now". |
